Similac & Enfamil lawsuits have been reviewed by the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multi-district Litigation (JPML). Upon due consideration, the JPML selected the Northern District of Illinois as the venue in which preemie baby formula NEC claims would be heard by the federal court system.
The Northern District of Illinois is part of the 7th Circuit of the U.S. court system, and appeals are heard by the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals.
Consolidation of the first batch of Similac/Enfamil NEC lawsuits was done in accordance with 28 U.S.C. § 1407. Newly filed cases are expected to likewise be transferred to the Northern District of Illinois.

Judge Rebecca R. Pallmeyer Presides Over Similac & Enfamil Baby Formula NEC Litigation
Northern District of Illinois Chief Judge Rebecca R. Pallmeyer has been selected by the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multi-district Litigation to oversee Similac & Enfamil baby formula NEC lawsuits nationwide.
Judge Pallmeyer was born in Tokyo, Japan. She pursued her higher education in the United States, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Valparaiso University in Indiana, and later, her Juris Doctor from the University of Chicago Law School.
Upon graduating, the future jurist clerked for the Honorable Judge Rosalie E. Wahl of the Minnesota Supreme Court. Pallmeyer then entered private practice, where her exemplary work as an attorney eventually led to her appointment to the federal bench.
Judge Rebecca R. Pallmeyer was first appointed to the bench as a U.S. District Judge for the Northern District of Illinois in 1998 by President Bill Clinton.
